3 Ways meditation can improve your life

meditation is an ancient practice that has long been steeped in tradition, mystery and myth. Contrary to what is often depicted in today’s society, not only meditation involves sitting in the lotus position chanting the mantra “OM” for hours. Although this method of meditation is still practiced by many modern meditators, which has only a small aspect of the many types of meditation techniques practiced today. While there are many benefits of meditation have been proven by science today, you must first understand what meditation is (and what is not) so you can have a better understanding of the practice and how appropriately apply to your life.

1.It stimulates the immune system
One of the most commonly cited benefits of meditation is that it is relaxing. While this is true (and it feels very good) there are a number of second-hand benefits can be experienced as a result of this relaxation. One is a stronger immune system. Stress and anxiety cause havoc with our immune system, leaving us susceptible to all sorts of unpleasant-especially during the winter. The development of a regular meditation practice reduces the amount of chemicals related to stress in our body, and also makes us less likely to turn to unhealthy coping strategies to manage stress.

2. It reduces blood pressure
A study by the Harvard Medical School found that meditation lowers blood pressure, making the body less sensitive to stress hormones in a similar way to drugs to lower blood pressure. Meanwhile, a report British Medical Journal found that trained how to relax patients had significantly lower blood pressure.

3. Improved self-acceptance
When we meditate, we become more aware of, and more able to control our thoughts. A key part of meditation revolves around realizing our thoughts without judging or getting caught up in their stories or meanings. This helps us to develop a different perspective on our internal dialogue, develop a greater understanding of ourselves and the practice of realizing our thoughts and feelings without attaching meaning or judgment for them.
