4 things you can do now to reduce your risk of cancer by 70%

Cancer is one of the most feared diseases out there, so it makes sense that we want to do everything you can prevent it. In the United States, it is estimated that cancer will be charged about 600,000 lives only this year.

While cancer sometimes seems to emerge at random, even in the most healthy people, according to a study by Harvard researchers and published in JAMA Oncology, found that many cases may be preventable. Even better, the four preventive factors indicated that the study are very easy to incorporate into our lives.

The researchers looked at just under 136,000 Caucasian individuals in the US, and close attention to their lifestyles are paid. cancers classified as carcinomas were taken into account. The term “carcinoma” refers to all cancers except the brain, lymph, hematologic, nonfatal prostate, and skin cancers.

The researchers found that adopting a healthier life style could prevent the risk of a new cancer diagnosis for women by 59 percent and for men by 67 percent. A “healthy life style” in this study consisted largely of four factors:

  • do not smoke;
  • drink only a small amount of alcohol (one drink a day for women, two for men), or none at all;
  • maintain a healthy weight (BMI between 18.5 and 27.5); and
  • get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week.

Based on these data, if every American followed these four patterns of lifestyle, new cancer diagnoses in the United States could fall between 40 and 70 percent.

The study authors wrote:

in an editorial accompanying the study, Graham Colditz, associate professor of epidemiology at Harvard University, wrote:

Fill your plate with lots of fruits and vegetables, healthy proteins, and unprocessed healthy fats . Look around for new and delicious recipes, and it is likely that junk food at all is not lost.

For exercise, find something you enjoy doing, whether jogging, dancing, martial arts, or hiking. If you’re new to exercise, it is very important to start slow so that a wound is not done, and work up a moderate pace that gets your heart pumping.

Sticking to a healthy lifestyle and focuses on the four above mentioned factors can not prevent all types of cancer occurring. However, you can give your body a chance to fight, and feel their best to boot, to stay as healthy as possible.
