At this stage of your pregnancy, you may not feel very pregnant because there is little or no change visible physical body. It is possible, however, begin to experience physical symptoms of pregnancy such as: 2.3
Nausea usually starts around 6 weeks of pregnancy, but may begin as early as 4 weeks.
- Morning sickness , feeling dizzy with or without weight gain or loss
- nausea and vomiting

- Breast tenderness
- Food cravings
- Increased sense of smell
- Urinary frequency and nocturia.
(Note: pregnancy increases the risk of urinary tract infections 6-24 weeks, so if your symptoms are not just pregnancy, and infection is suspected, talk to your doctor about your treatment.) 3
Your hormones at 6 weeks of pregnancy
Throughout your pregnancy, you will experience changes in certain hormones that contribute to many of the pregnancy symptoms you may experience.
After implantation of the fertilized egg, the body secretes the hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone that is used to detect pregnancy. HCG is responsible for regulating Estrogens and Progesterone and contributes to frequent urination. 5
Progesterone, which is initially produced by the corpus luteum, rises throughout her pregnancy and continues until the birth of her baby.
In early pregnancy, progesterone is responsible for increasing uterine blood flow, the establishment of the placenta and stimulate growth and nutrient production of the endometrium (lining of the uterus). In addition, progesterone plays a vital role in fetal development, prevention of preterm birth and breastfeeding, as well as strengthening the muscles of the pelvic wall to prepare your body for labor. 5
In addition to progesterone, the placenta is vital in the secretion of vital hormones during pregnancy, such as: 5
- human placental lactogen: this hormone it is believed to handle the growth of the mammary gland, it will be important for breastfeeding after the birth of your baby. It also plays a role in increasing the nutrient levels in the blood, which is vital for growth and development of your baby
- corticotropin-releasing hormone this hormone is not only responsible for determining how long it will be pregnant, it is also responsible for the growth and development of your baby. Later in pregnancy, increasing both the CRH and cortisol not only complete the development of fetal organs but also provide the mother with increased cortisol, which has been linked to maternal care, which increases the mother-baby bond.
Another vital hormone in pregnancy is estrogen, which is responsible for fetal organ development, growth and placental function and growth of the mammary gland, which will be important for breastfeeding after the birth of your baby.
In addition, estrogen regulation of other hormones produced during pregnancy is needed.
Due to increased progesterone and estrogen, you may experience some symptoms of pregnancy not as nice as mood swings and morning sickness.
Another hormone, relaxin, can cause physical symptoms such as pelvic pain, balance difficulties and constipation , because of their maternal role to relax the muscles, ligaments and joints.

At 6 weeks of pregnancy there are many changes in the development of your baby. Developments that are being developed are:

- formation of facial features such as eyes, nose, jaw, cheeks and chin
- ears, limbs and teeth formation inside buds

While it is safe to eat fish during pregnancy, you should limit your intake to 8-12 Oz. seafood per week. 3.6
Examples of fish that are safe to eat during pregnancy include shrimp, canned tuna (note: mercury varies possible per can), pollock, catfish, salmon, anchovies, herring, sardines, trout, Atlantic mackerel and Pacific and cod. If you plan on eating albacore tuna and tuna steak, it is recommended to limit consumption of this fish to 6 ounces per week. 6
