Is there any way you can increase your child’s intelligence permanently?

Environmental intervention can increase overall intelligence of a child, but is unlikely to be permanent effects, new research has found. The findings suggest that intelligence can be adapted to meet the growing environmental demands, but when those demands are no longer present, it returns to its previous level. “Meanwhile IQ scores and general intelligence can be raised through specific environmental interventions, gains are not permanent and will fade over time,” said researcher John Protzko the University of California, Santa Barbara, United States. The research was published in Intelligence magazine. Protzko examined the results of a health program and development of the study, children with the participation of 985 children, all of whom experienced an intense and cognitively demanding environment during the first three years of his life. interventions were used to improve the negative effects of being born with low birth weight. At age three, children were given Scales Stanford-Binet Intelligence as a benchmark measure of his intelligence. At the age of five eight – at least two years after interventions had ended – which were again tested for intelligence. (Read: Can that your child smarter and smarter food)

The results showed that the interventions had raised the general intelligence of children at three years. However, five years increases were no longer evident. He also noted that this difference in intelligence to three to five years highlighted another problem: causality. One of the theories on the development of intelligence suggests that the trait can be correlated between two ages because there is a causal connection: Intelligence at age makes intelligence to another age. “However, my analysis starts presenting evidence to the idea that intelligence can not be the causal factor is assume from the work of correlation – at least not in children,” said Protzko.
