Teen Depression Treatment and imagination ;
Depression is a significant mental illness that affects a large part of the US population. This is true for adults and teenagers alike. Although much has been done to help minimize the stigma of mental illness and specifically the stigma of depression, there remains a judgment against those who are depressed by society. Educate the public about what is depression, contributing to it, and how to treat it can help minimize this social judgment.
major depressive disorder (MDD) is still well researched among adolescents and adults, because it affects a significant number of adults and adolescents in America. In fact, about 70 percent of all antidepressants sold in the world are sold in the United States. Approximately 9 percent of US adults and 11 percent of adolescents suffer from depression, and overall, five percent of the population worldwide suffer from depression. According to World Health Organization , depression is the leading cause of disability among adolescents and adults 15-44 years old.
Although the tendency to think about chemicals in the brain or life circumstances, such as loss as causes of depression, sometimes, mental illness can source self-images long data, dysfunctional. Sometimes, when the mind is inflicted by the disease, such as depression, below pictures of lies that could be self-defeating and formed early in life and often forgotten. If, for example, has an image of himself that is shameful or unworthy or unlovable, it might be difficult to feel worthy of what life it has to offer. It might be difficult to find the energy to manage the emotional, psychological and physical changes that take place during adolescence.
is easy to develop an unhealthy self-image as a result of trauma. Often, because children have not developed psychologically, trying to explain the trauma taking the blame for it. Instead of placing the blame on their parents, they need for their survival, their underdeveloped minds, that makes more sense for children to take the blame for a physical or sexual trauma.
A similar experience is true when there is attachment in the home. Often there is a high degree of vulnerability, risk, and the potential for emotional and psychological distress in families with addiction. In an attempt to feel safe, children also have the fault here too. The same self-blame can happen when there is a death in the family or when there is domestic violence between parents.
Unfortunately, destructive self-images stay with children even after they have grown into adolescence and adulthood. Working with these images is a healing technique powerful and is used by many doctors in treatment of adolescent depression .
Imagination is the language of the unconscious mind and the autonomic nervous system. For example, imagine sucking on a lemon and a notice that almost immediately his mouth filled with saliva. The connection between imagination and physical experience is very powerful.
For this reason, the use of imagination as a healing technique has proven effective in many clinical settings. Techniques such as guided imagery, ideal model Images, evocative images, Control Time and Space Control are interventions used by psychologists and therapists to help change the image of himself.
Image Guided – This is a treatment technique that uses the imagination and approach to direct attention to the nervous system, in particular the body part that might have the answer to one question. It can be used in those who have both psychological and physical illnesses.
Model Ideal Imagery – In this mode of treatment, the doctor asks a depressed teenager or adult to imagine what it would be like in an ideal situation. For example, an intervention might be: “Imagine what your life would be like if it were not depressed?” O “Imagine what circumstances and situations you find him if you were not depressed.”
evocative Imagery – This technique invites a teenager or an adult to go back in time when he or she feels a certain quality that could be useful in the present, such as hope, happiness, courage, patience, or force. Reconnecting with quality and leading her forward, an individual can escape the routine and emotional experience relief from a state of depression.
Space Control -. This is a technique that asks a depressed teenager imagine a place that is totally serene, peaceful and cheerful, a place where depression, pain and sadness is absent
Time Control – This technique is similar to the evocative Images, in which people are invited to return to a time when they experienced happiness. They are asked to remember how other treaties, what their life circumstances were similar, and to bring those feelings and memories forward in the present.
These techniques are way to access the powerful tool of imagination and re-work those deeply embedded images have a powerful influence on the lives of depressed adolescents and adults. The use of imagination is one of many medical devices used to treat mental illness.
